MEDIA RELEASE FROM NEW ZEALAND SOTHEBY’S INTERNATIONAL REALTY
February 21, 2019. For immediate release
Demolition work will begin next week to make way for a new luxury apartment complex in Nelson’s CBD.
The premium Malthouse Lane apartments on Malthouse Lane, off Collingwood Street, are being developed by well-known local couple Mark A’Court and Veronica Hippolite-A’Court, who own the Fresh Choice Nelson supermarket.
The three-level architecturally designed complex comprises 13 energy efficient apartments priced from $601,000 to over $1.2 million, all of which are high spec and feature contemporary open-plan living. Interest in the apartments has been significant, with half of them already sold off the plans – the one and three-bedroom apartments have sold, with just six two-bedroom apartments now available.
The remaining six apartments have just been launched to market with premium real estate brand New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty.
Veronica Hippolite-A’Court says the eco-conscious apartment development brings a new dimension to Nelson’s CBD.
“We’re very excited to be utilising this land in the heart of the city and bringing people into the CBD,” she says. “Our whole ethos is around trying to get people away from using their cars and generally just being kinder to the environment. We are also firm advocates of building energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes and we’ve included aspects such as bike storage, electric car chargers and automated car stackers to future-proof the complex for modern living.”
Designed by Andrew Irving from Nelson architecture firm Irving Smith Architects, the complex is terraced to ensure privacy for owners, has abundant natural light and tremendous views of Nelson from the upper levels.
The central site was originally a Malthouse, then a storage facility before becoming a blood bank in the 1970s. Construction of the new Malthouse Lane complex will be undertaken by local company Gibbons Construction, with a scheduled completion date of Christmas 2020.
“The entire development from start to finish is very localised,” Hippolite-A’Court adds. “We work with local suppliers and businesses to lower our footprint and we are recycling demolition materials where possible to maintain our eco-friendly philosophy.”
New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty (NZSIR) Nelson-Marlborough Sales Manager Ian Keightley says Malthouse Lane offers a rare opportunity for people to enjoy urban living in one of New Zealand’s most vibrant yet peaceful cities.
“Malthouse Lane is a premier inner-city apartment complex designed for living a perfectly balanced modern life,” he says. “It has the best of both worlds – inner-city living with nature just a short walk away. The apartments are very close to all restaurants, shops, cinemas and the Saturday markets, as well as the Riverside Pool and Queen’s Gardens. It has all the benefits of city living with the added advantage of bike and walking tracks on the doorstep.”
Malthouse Lane apartments are listed with NZSIR and can be viewed here.
