Southern Lakes to host celebrated Fashion for a Cure event

MEDIA RELEASE FROM BREAST CANCER CURE, AUCKLAND
21 September 2018. For immediate release

Queenstown and Wanaka will host the acclaimed fashion and breast cancer research fundraising event Fashion for a Cure in November.

This is the first time the exclusive annual event – which showcases the latest collections from New Zealand’s top fashion designers to raise money for breast cancer research – will be held in Wanaka, while it returns to Queenstown after three successful years.

Coordinated by non-profit organisation Breast Cancer Cure (BCC), the Wanaka and Queenstown fundraisers – held November 28 and November 29 respectively – are included in a nationwide line-up of decadent fashion evenings.

Kiwi entertainer Shane Cortese will host the events, while designers set to feature are Trelise Cooper, Coop, Ruby, Kathryn Wilson, Yvonne Bennetti, Moochi, Zambesi, Storm, Liam and Edmund Hillary.

BCC general manager Phillipa Green says all proceeds from Fashion for a Cure go directly towards funding more scientific research into finding a cure for breast cancer, which kills two New Zealand women every day.

“We’re committed to achieving our goal of finding a cure for breast cancer, but we need all the help we can get to achieve this goal, urgently. Attending one of our fundraising events is the best way to show your support towards research projects that currently lack government funding,” she says.

“Fashion for a Cure has been tremendously successful in Queenstown and we’re looking forward to bringing it to Wanaka for the first time. It’s a fantastic night out where guests enjoy live music, fashion and exceptional food and wine, plus we’ll also be holding live and silent auctions with some coveted items up for grabs.”

Fashion for a Cure MC and BCC ambassador Shane Cortese says the events play a key role in helping to progress breast cancer research in New Zealand.

“Everyone knows someone with breast cancer – New Zealand has the seventh highest incidence of breast cancer in the world,” he says. “Fashion for a Cure is a significant fundraising initiative to help our wives, mothers, sisters and daughters beat this disease, and I’m excited to be coming to Queenstown and Wanaka to host these important events.”
